Davis Dining Table
Typically, big slabs are turned into table top with the ‘‘live edge’’ preserved to show the beauty of a complete tree. The Davis collection is certainly not typical furniture and the dining table is no exception. In continuation of the minimalist and mid century modern style of the Davis collection, the dining table was designed to show case a wood slab differently: without live edges. The slab is flush trimed to the base and the final edge is given a large round over to soften the lines.
These are sister slabs that come for a fallen Walnut tree on a farm in the west of Ottawa.. These slabs come from the same tree and were once joined together. When opened up like a book, the grain of the wood matches quite nicely. This is called ‘‘book matching’’. The grain appears to leave and come back together when lined up perfectly, making it the center of attention.
